Workshop Objectives:
• Discover some common myths about vocabulary teaching & learning
• Gain exposure to the academic word list and other resources
• Explore different types of ESL dictionaries and learn how to choose and use them effectively
• Learn how to incorporate idioms & slang into your teaching of vocabulary
• Gain ideas for creating useful vocabulary tools for your students
• Help your learners take charge of their vocabulary development
Teaching vocabulary is extremely challenging, and it is the one area that learners always mention as “wanting more of.” As teachers we must understand the basic principles of vocabulary teaching and learning as well as how to best present and incorporate vocabulary meaningfully into our lessons for different levels of learners. Having a correct view of the roles that we and our students play in the process of vocabulary acquisition will facilitate learning and ensure better results.
